Sad Day

Little Riley passed away in my arms this afternoon. He was a pretty sick little guy when he came here, but I'm glad we could make him warm and comfortable. He was a little angel.

You Got Punked...

Today Ayleen, a nanny and myself visited a picturesque village in the mountains:

Then, being a giant, I destroyed the village....(insert evil laugh here)

Actually - we went to the flower/plant market and I bought a bouquet for the nannies to enjoy.

While we were there, I learned that "the marriage celebrates the decorated vehicle". Check out the examples:

We picked up some bananas before heading back to the orphanage. This guy was so nice and repeated weighing the bananas for my picture.
I'm heading back to Luoyang later today and then to Xinyang by train tomorrow.
I will try not to be eaten by a giant white girl!!

Chillin with the Children

It's a foggy, lazy day here in Jiaozou. Gave me some time to take some pictures around the unit:
Sweet Caroline..

He's giving you the stink eye...

A Big Bunch of Babies

What You've All Been Waiting For...

I finally got a decent pic (taken discretely) of a baby with his butt cheeks exposed. I'm unsure how the parents don't get urinated/defecated on frequently, but to each their own I suppose. Enjoy - it's a pretty cute butt!!

Out in About in the People's Republic

Snowflying sounds so much better than skiing...

Good thing I've been taking yoga classes...

My New Love

Lipton Milk Tea...Yum! It probably has melamine in it, but it's worth it!!
Why don't we have this in the states?

Day At The Park

Ayleen (the nurse in Jiaozou) and I went for a walk around the lake at a very nice park just about 2-3 miles from the orphanage today. It was a perfect day - warm and just enough wind for flying kites. Our sweet ride

Jiaozou!!
Oh - and we admitted a 9 day old baby boy yesterday to the unit. I guess it is tradition to have the volunteers give the babies an English name (they already have a Chinese name). So..I named him Riley - meaning "courageous".
